What's goin' on with my body?

If you're a woman over 40, you've probably had that moment. The one where you look in the mirror, or wake up at 3am for no reason, or notice that the jeans that fit last year suddenly don't — and you think: what is happening to my body?
I've been there. I am there, honestly. And I want to talk about it — not with clinical detachment, but from my own experience, with the kind of honesty that I wish someone had offered me earlier.
Perimenopause and menopause bring real, significant changes. Hormonal shifts affect everything: your metabolism, your sleep, your mood, your joints, your energy levels, your memory. It can feel like your body has become a stranger.
But here's what I've found: movement is medicine. Not punishment. Not a way to "fix" yourself. Movement as a genuine act of care for the body you're living in right now.
Strength training — like our Kettlebell Yoga Fusion classes — helps maintain bone density and muscle mass, both of which decline with age if we don't actively work to preserve them. It also supports metabolism and mood in ways that go far beyond aesthetics.
Aerial yoga brings something different: it asks you to be present, to breathe, to trust your body. The inversion elements can help with circulation and lymphatic flow. And the sheer joy of it — the playfulness — does something for the nervous system that a treadmill simply can't.
Most importantly, doing these things in community — with other women who are navigating the same terrain — is profoundly healing. You realize you're not alone. You laugh together. You struggle together. You get stronger together.
Your body is changing. That's not a failure — it's life. The question is how you want to meet it.
